The Mars Exploration - Mars Missions

Many robotic Missions went to the Red Planet. Most of the Mars Missions sent by the USA – like the Mars Global Surveyor.

Most of the mars missions were launched by former Soviet union and the United States of America during the space race in the 1960ies. After the great success of the mars mission of the US probes Viking 1 and 2 both countries lost interest for over a decade.

Both countries wanted to send missions to mars at the end of the 1980ies again – but lost all spacecrafts close to the planet Mars.

With the success of the Mars Pathfinder and its small mars rover the interest of planet Mars got an revival. In the last 20 years more and more international missions from Europe, Japan, China and India launched with their goal to reach the red planet.
